Located 140 kilometres south of the capital Tunis, the city has 271,428 inhabitants (2014). Sousse is in the central-east of the country, on the Gulf of Hammamet, which is part of the Mediterranean Sea.
Overlooked by the mighty Ribat and Kasbah, Sousse’s Medina just begs to be explored. This lovely historic centre is a shopping paradise, with a tempting selection of ceramics, leatherwork and metalwork on display. Away from the souk streets, the quiet and rambling back alleys are a charming place to immerse yourself in local life away from the bustle.
You can also make a visit to the Medina of Sousse, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and to the complex of Port El Kantaoui, where you can find a golf course, white and green Tunisian style village architecture and a harbour with luxury yachts.
